Ellen was the eighth and youngest known child of Richard Jones (1788 - after 1861) and Sarah Lee (1799 - before 1861)

Richard Jones’s parents were William Jones and Mary Griffiths of Orseddwen, a farm on Offa’s Dyke in Llangollen parish, Denbighshire but only a few miles from Selattyn in Shropshire. The family used Selattyn as their parish church.
