The majority of my more recent ancestors lived in the parishes which straddle the border between Denbighshire in Wales and Shropshire in England, in particular the rural coal mining village of Chirk. Chirk is the first village in Wales on the A5, immediately over the border. R. S. Thomas (1913 - 2000), the renowned Welsh poet who was curate in Chirk from 1939 to 1943, described Chirk as being ‘on the hairline fracture of England and Wales’.
Chirk, and other parishes in which my ancestors lived will be described here. This is work in progress and will be added as soon as possible.
